Covered Up

Maaji

The amount of beachwear I own is downright embarrassing. As in, I have three drawers in my closet dedicated solely to teeny bikinis, soccer mom-esque one pieces, colorful pareos, cotton tunics, crochet shorts, lazy day muumuus, etc.

Last week, I found myself Spring cleaning and trying ever so hard to downsize my beachwear collection — particularly parting ways with my hoochie mama wears from my Wet Seal/trampy 20s — but I just couldn’t. Each item of clothing serves as an earmark for a fond memory. Or an asinine adventure.

Like, that super tacky fuchsia sarong covered in sequins (read: totes fugly), buried at the back of the drawer? Yes, it needs to be burned for offending neighboring retinas, but I just can’t give it up. It takes me back to that time my husband and I went to Costa Rica. And almost died ziplining over cantankerous crocodiles. And that teensy G-string bikini (yes, a thong, ha!) — it reminds me of that time my best friend and I dumped our boyfriends and crashed Parrot Cay á la Thelma and Louise (only…we got back with said boyfriends the nanosecond we landed in Miami because we’re wussies. With more issues than Vogue).  And so on and so forth…

The nylon and mesh dress in this picture is by my new coverup crush, Maaji. I wore it to Soho House last Friday and it was a total hit. Which means, it’s a welcome addition to my coverup collection for life.

Do you get emotionally attached to your clothes, too?

Love this! I do the same thing when I am trying to downsize! Everything has a reason and I can’t let go!
