Why I Do Nothing On Sundays

Fashionable PJs

{PJs c/o Mio Destino, Glasses c/o Collins Bridge}

Il dolce far niente,” — Italian for “the sweetness of doing nothing.” And this statement — made particularly popular in the feel-good novel Eat, Pray Love — is a personal quest I try to live by on Sundays.

Because Sundays are the one day of the week I stay in my PJs past socially acceptable hours. Because Sundays are for leaving beds unmade, faces unwashed and hair unbrushed. Because Sundays are for curling up on the couch and catching a Frozen marathon with my daughter. Or taking dips in the pool while leisurely reading smut. Or scarfing down eggs benedict. And quaffing bottomless mimosas. And doing, well, nothing.

 Ah, Sunday.

 It’s the one day my husband and I never make plans. Ever. There’s an unspoken rule that on Sundays we…indulge in il dolce far niente.

If you find yourself planning, racing to events, engaging in activities you don’t genuinely love — well,  you must marvel in this notion. TRUST.
