In Lieu of Making a Baby, We got a Dog

mini poodle

{I mean, look at those faces!}

With my biological clock ticktocking louder than the thumping bass at LIV nightclub, it was only a matter of time before I ended up:

A) Knocked up with our third child

B) Procuring a mini poodle

And seeing as Option A ordains 9 months of nausea, water retention, extreme moodiness, severe food cravings (like salt & vinegar chips and peanut butter & jelly sandwiches on a solid 2-hour rotation), and ugly-ass maternity clothes, well, Option B boasted more appeal. Tack on the fact my children have been relentlessly begging for a puppy for years now and it felt like the inevitable to some degree.

I’m a big believer in signs and as I meandered through the streets of Buenos Aires, I couldn’t help but notice the boundless amounts of poodles. Naturally, I was taken aback by their cuteness and kept nudging the husband whenever I spotted one of these caramel-colored canines. The hubby was obstinate — there would be no poodle in our near future. Talk about a buzz kill! Sheesh.

But seeing as being incessantly annoying is my forte, I cracked him (after a few glasses of intoxicating Malbec, obviously). After some stressful Googling, picking out the pup from a breeder, procuring the necessary documents to take the pup back home to the States — we did it! — all in under 2 hours. Let me tell you, this was huge feat. A huge thank you to Mariano & Joaquin for this gift. The most comical part in all this melee was obtaining a letter from a psychiatrist stating I’m mentally incapable of flying alone and said half-pound pup was my “mascot.” Ha!

The moral of the story? Where there’s a will, there’s a way. My kids were so surprised with the puppy’s arrival (see video) and named her Honey.

Because she’s so very sweet.

    I seriously don’t know how you pulled it off so quickly, it took a while to get Dallas here from Colombia!

    Honey…perfect name for the pup, but the letter from the psychiatrist was too funny, your 1/2 lb Honey keeps you stable LOL!!! Definitely where there’s a will, there’s a way. Thanks for all your posts!
